General Overview

Zimbabwe, a landlocked country between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers, shares borders with South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, and Mozambique. Its three official languages—English, Shona, and Ndebele—reflect the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Once part of the British colony of Rhodesia, Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980 after a long liberation struggle. Though the early post-independence years saw improvements in education and social services, later decades brought economic challenges and political instability. Despite this, Zimbabwe remains one of Africa’s most rewarding destinations for nature lovers and adventure travelers.

Tourism declined sharply in the early 2000s but has since shown steady recovery. The country continues to captivate visitors with its dramatic landscapes, diverse wildlife, and remarkable historical sites.

The world-famous Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sits on the Zambezi River and anchors a region rich in safari experiences, including Victoria Falls National Park and nearby Hwange National Park, the largest in Zimbabwe.

To the east, the Eastern Highlands offer cool mountain scenery, lush forests, and panoramic viewpoints. Highlights include Mount Nyangani, Nyanga National Park, the Bvumba Mountains, and the breathtaking World’s View.

Zimbabwe is also home to extraordinary cultural treasures. The ancient stone city of Great Zimbabwe stands as one of Africa’s most significant archaeological sites and gives the country its name. Throughout the land, iconic Balancing Rocks and the dramatic Matobo Hills showcase Zimbabwe’s unique natural artistry, blending geology, wildlife, and deep spiritual history.

From sweeping savannas to ancient ruins and mountain escapes, Zimbabwe offers an unforgettable blend of wilderness, culture, and adventure.
